Piotr Plawner is one of the most outstanding violinists of the younger generation. "This young man is truly a phenomenon, a genius of the violin. His playing, into its last nuance, is fascinating. The interpretation of every phrase has been deliberated, everything must be described in superlatives", acclaimed the Stuttgarter Zeitung. "Plawner is clearly an outstanding prospect" wrote the Times and Sir Yehudi Menuhin described him as a violinist with "phenomenal ability".
Born in 1974 in Lodz, Poland, Piotr Plawner began studying the violin at the age of six. Just three years later, he made his stage debut as a soloist with orchestra. He was the holder of the scholarship of the Polish Ministry of Art and Culture and, from 1992-1995, the Henryk Szeryng Foundation in Monaco. In 1995, Piotr Plawner graduated with honours in Bern and received the "Eduard-Tschumi" prize for the best soloist.

Piotr Plawner was the first prize winner of not less than five international violin competitions: in 1990 at the Competition for Young Violinist in Lublin and the Tadeusz Wronski Competition in Warsaw; in 1991 at the International Festival of Young Talents in Bayreuth and the International Wieniawski Competition in Poznan and in 1995 at the prestigious ARD Munich Competition, where he received first prize in the violin category, being only the third to receive this distinction in the 50 years of the competition`s existence.

Piotr Plawner's exceptional talent and breathtaking virtuosity are recognised internationally. He has performed as a soloist all over Europe, in the middle East and the United States. Since he received the ARD first prize, Piotr Plawner has been featured in Copenhagen (Tivoli), Paris (Chatelet), Berlin (Schauspielhaus), Munich (Herkules Saal), Stuttgart (Liederhalle), Barcelona (Palau de la Musica Catalana), Madrid (Teatro Monumental) and Amsterdam (Concertgebouw). He is a guest of major European orchestras including those of Amsterdam, Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, Bern, Hilversum and Monte-Carlo, the German Chamber Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia, the Sinfonia Helvetica and the Southern German and Bavarian Broadcasting Service. Piotr Plawner toured Great Britain with the Cracow Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has worked with numerous distinguished conductors, amongst them Jonatann Brett, Kai Bumann, Gabriel Chmura, Alun Francis, Bernhard Güller, Hillary Griffthlis, Hartmut Haenchen, Siegfried Heinrich, Olaf Henzold, Heinz Holliger, Arnold Katz, Bernhard Klee, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Grzegorz Nowak, Nicolas Pasquet, James dePreist, Hans-Reiner Förster, Doron Salomon, Tadeusz Strugala, Martin Studer, Michele Tilkin, Antoni Wit and Barbara Yahr.
In addition to his solo performances, Piotr Plawner plays regularly in recital with the internationally renowned pianist Bruno Canino and in several chamber music ensembles.

Piotr Plawner has made many recordings, particularly of works of Polish composers (Wieniawski, Szymanowski, Karlowicz), for radio and television in Poland, the Netherlands (Radio Hilversum, Dutch Television), Germany (Bayerische Rundfunk, SDR, SWR, WDR, NDR), Austria (ORF), Spain (TVE) and Switzerland (DRS). He has also recorded the violin concertos of Sibelius, Prokofiew, Schumann and Glasunov.
His recording "Chamberworks of Karol Szymanowski" was named "CD of the Year" by the "Studio" periodical. His latest CD contains Ernest Chausson's concerto for violin, piano and string quartet. His recording of the complete works of Grazyna Bacewicz for violin and piano, with Ewa Kupiec, will be released shortly.
